Welcome to Tunnell Elementary School!  Home of the Thunderbirds!

Tunnell Elementary School provides a warm, stimulating environment where students are actively involved in learning academic subject matter and positive values. Students receive a standards-based, rigorous curriculum provided by a dedicated and professional staff that is based on the individual needs of the students.  Ongoing evaluation of student progress and achievement helps us refine our instructional programs so that students can achieve academic proficiency. We are committed to providing the best educational program for our Tunnell Thunderbirds, and welcome any suggestions or questions you may have about our school.  As collaborative partners, we can provide our students learning experiences that will help them to reach their maximum potential.

Mission Statement: All students will succeed to their fullest potential through the united efforts of students, staff, parents, and the community while on a safe campus. 

School Profile: Tunnell Elementary School is located in the northeastern region of Santa Maria and serves students in grades transitional kindergarten through six. At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, 821 students were enrolled, including approx. 7% in special education, 36.3% English Language Learners, and 80.9% qualifying for free or reduced price lunch. On the 2019 CAASPP, 43% of our students met or exceeded standard in English Language Arts.  31% met or exceeded standard in Mathematics.
